The Student Director’s Committee produced the first annual Re:Create on Saturday

Senior fashion designer Melissa Kubik won Best in Show award for her creativity and quality of design.

The Student Director’s Committee produced Re:Create, the Fashion School’s annual show, for the first time Saturday night.

“We decided on Re:Create as the theme because we wanted to bring the show to life,” said Laura Toomey, co-producer of the show. “The committee wanted to recreate an energetic feeling for the audience.”

Senior fashion designer Melissa Kubik won Best in Show award for her collection.

“The creativity and quality of the designs was a lot better than what I have seen in the past,” said Brittany Mizelle, co-producer of the show. “Melissa Kubik’s pieces seem to have a lot of structure but still maintained their movement at the same time. Her collection was amazing.”

The fashion show featured four to five piece collections from a variety of categories determined by the designer including lingerie, swimwear, bridal, menswear, one-of-a-kind, eveningwear and children’s wear.

“All of the collections were so different from one another and there was a wide selection of well-constructed clothes,” said Amanda Zehms, model director of the runway show. “That is what made for a really interesting show.”

The committee also showcased student work from various departments outside the Cartwright Hall auditorium.

“It’s a new process and a chance for other students to show off their talent,” Zehms said. “This is what the fashion school has to offer, not just for designers but for the community as well. It’s a great way to recap the year and to present what’s been going on at Kent State.”
