Final Thoughts

The debate is now over. This debate was a lot more lively than the last presidential debate, as both candidates multiple times were interrupting one another, and even correcting each other. President Obama seemed a lot more alive than the last debate, and he spoke more than three minutes and ten seconds longer than Governor Romney. The main talking points during tonight's debate were energy, immigration, economy, and foreign affairs. The next debate is Monday October 22 at 9:00 pm.

10:39 p.m.

Obama says he doesn't believe government creates jobs. He says everyone should have a fair shot and everyone should play by the same rules, because that's how you create the middle class.

10:36 p.m.

The next question is about what is true and not true about the two candidates based on what has been said during this campaign. Romney is describing how he is an advocate for the American people in many aspects, including economy, energy, and education. He says if I become president I will get America working again.

10:33 p.m.

They are now debating on how to bring the Apple company back to the United States. Romney went back to his point about how we need to make America the most attractive place for business. Obama says we need to lead the world economy.

10:31 p.m.

President Obama has two minutes before the final statements are given. Obama still has the upper hand in time. He says he wants to close loopholes for cooperate companies. He says the way we're going to create jobs here by doubling American exports.

Romney says he will make it more attractive to come to America again if he is elected president. He also says he wants to make it the most attractive place for all business, big and small. He also says he will label China a currency manipulator. He says he will make sure people who American does business with plays by the rules.

10:22 p.m.

Romney says we need parents raising good kids. The greatest failure we've had with gun violence is know as fast and furious. This program allowed people to obtain automatic weapons. It occurred during the Obama administration.

Obama says we need to get into communities to stop violent assaults before they occur.

10:19 p.m.

The next question is what is President Obama going to do to limit availability of assault weapons to criminals. Obama is telling a story about meeting with a survivor of the Colorado shootings from this past summer. He says that weapons that are designed for soldiers, don't belong on our streets.

The mediator just corrected Governor Romney about President Obama calling the tragedy an act of terror the day after the incident happened. He did indeed say that. The crowd applauded when Obama asked the mediator "Can you say that a bit louder?

10:16 p.m.

President Obama says he takes full responsibility for what happened in Libya. He greeted the caskets coming into Andrew's Air Force base and grieved with the families.

10:14 p.m.

Romney brings up the point that the days following the tragedy in Libya, President Obama was in Las Vegas and Colorado. He also says that Iran is four years closer to having a nuclear bomb.

10:12 p.m.

President Obama has now spoken almost more than five minutes more than Governor Romney.

The next question is about the tragedy that took place in Libya, and the security that the embassy had. Obama replies by saying when folks mess with Americans, we go after them.

Both candidates are talking over each other as the mediator tries to get them back on topic. The debate is still on immigration, but Romney asked Obama what his pension was. Obama responded by saying "Not as high as yours."

Romney says he is not in favor of rounding up people and taking them out of this country, he is in favor of taking illegal immigrants who committed crimes out of this country.

Right now Governor Romney has spoken more than two minutes less than President Obama.

The next topic of discussion has to do with immigration and green cards. Romney is answering first.

Romney says that the next four years are going to be the same as the last four years. He also says this is a president who didn't do what he said he would.

President Obama answering a question on what he will do to improve the next four years compared to his last. He says he did things such as save the auto industry and made health care affordable.

President Obama says he came into office at a very tough time. He says Governor Romney has gone to a more extreme place when it comes to social policy.

Governor Romney asked a question on how he is different from President Bush and how would your presidency be different as a republican. He says his five point plan is different. He says everything he does helps small businesses grow. He says his priority is jobs.

President Obama says women need a strong advocate. He says women issues are not just women's issues but family issues.

Governor Romney says he thinks women need to have flexible schedules. He if the economy was better it would open up jobs for women.

President Obama says he will not tolerate discrimination. It has been a focal point for the last four years and will continue to be.

The latest question deals with women earning 72% to a man's dollar.

Romney is referring to his record. He is saying President Obama doubled the deficit. He says he knows what it takes to balance budget.

President Obama says the cost of lowering rates will cost five trillion dollars.

President Obama is shooting down Romney's economic plan. Romney says he wants to bring rates down because he says if you do this it makes it easier for small business to keep more of their capital and hire people.

President Obama says he wants to give middle class families and people trying to get into the middle class a tax break.President Obama thinks the wealthy should have to pay more.

Romney says middle class have been buried. He says the presidents borrowing will cause taxes go up for the middle class.

Governor Romney asked question about tax deductions. Romney says he wants the middle class to have lower taxes. Romney says he will bring rates down across the board for everybody. Top five of tax payers will continue to pay 60% of income tax.

President Obama is saying gas prices were lower when he came into office because we were on the verge of recession.

Both candidates are standing while debating over oil permits and energy.

President Obama says he made the largest investment in clean coal technology. He says the oil imports are down to the lowest levels, cars are more efficient, which is creating jobs.

Governor Romney is talking about coal and becoming energy independent. He says he will do it by more drilling, which will bring jobs back for the middle class.

President Obama says we can't just think about today and tomorrow, but about ten years from now. Governor Romney responds and says oil production is down 14% on federal land and gas is down 9% on federal land.

The next question deals with gas prices. President Obama says the most importnant thing we can do is control our own energy and that we can't just produce traditional sources of energy. We have to look to the future.

Education is the first main talking point tonight.

President Obama says he wants to take the money that has been used on war and use it to help the economy in other areas, such as education, roads, bridges and school.

Governor Romney is answering question in regard to how he will make sure college students will get jobs after college. Romney says he knows what it takes to get this economy going. Obama says he wants to build on the five million manufacturing jobs he has already created and have the best education system in the world.
