Festive lights just have that effect on people. Even grown adults are reduced to wide eyes and muffled squeals when passing a particularly extravagant display. While creeping around various neighborhoods at night is pretty exciting, northeast Ohio is full of public light displays for your viewing pleasure. Check out some of these nearby light shows because pretty lights that move can brighten anyone’s night. See the map below for locations and directions.

Nela Park in East Cleveland

An 87-year-old tradition, Nela Park’s lighting display contains almost half a million lights. The display is available for viewing until New Years at no cost. This year’s theme, according to newsnet5.com, is “Merry & Bright.”

Medina County Fair Holiday Lights Drive Thru

This display is open weekends from 6 pm to 10 pm, Sundays 6pm to 9 pm and Monday through Thursday the week before Christmas from 6 pm to 9 pm It costs $7 per car.

Stan Hywet’s Deck the Hall

Historical Stan Hywet is holding a “Joys of Christmas Past” Deck the Hall event this year. This display also boasts half a million lights and also a load of Christmas memorabilia. The event runs until December 30 and lasts from 5 pm to 8 pm on select days. Cleveland Museum of Art’s Winter Lights Lantern Display

The Museum of Art has a lantern display for the holiday season inspired by ancient lighting ceremonies. The display will be outside at Wade Oval until December 18 and inside the museum until January 16. For more information visit the special events section on clevelandart.org

Ashtabula Lights on the Lake Boasting the “largest holiday light display on Lake Erie,” Ashtabula offers this drive through event until January 1 at $5 per vehicle. Visit on weekends from 6 pm to 9 pm Visit the official event website at aclotl.com

Canton City’s McKinley Memorial Park Display

If you find yourself in Canton, take a drive through the McKinley Memorial Park for some fun lights. The winding display turns on after dark and free to view. And there’s a sea monster there. Very cool.
