In preparation for “The Clothesline Project” April 25, the Women’s Center is hosting a T-shirt making session at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Women’s Center.
The purpose of making the shirts is for survivors and allies to articulate their personal experiences or feelings towards violence against women. It also provides victims with another avenue to break the silence.
A second opportunity to create a shirt will be noon to 2 p.m. on April 23 in room 206 of the Student Center.
Cassandra Pegg-Kirby, assistant director for the center, assisted with the scheduling and promoting for the event.
“A lot of the things that are on the shirts – the shirts that I’ve seen – are maybe things that they wanted to say that that couldn’t,” Pegg-Kirby said. “It can also be people who are just speaking out about how they feel about violence against women. It’s just a different way to get the information out there.”
The event is open to all those who wish to participate. T-shirts and decorating supplies will be provided.
