Van Dulmen accepts associate provost, dean of graduate studies position

Manfred van Dulmen is the associate provost for academic affairs and the dean of the Division of Graduate Studies.

Manfred van Dulmen accepted the position of associate provost of academic affairs and dean of the Division of Graduate Studies, according to an email from Senior Vice President and Provost Melody Tankersley sent earlier Friday. 

Expected to start his new position April 16, van Dulmen previously served as the interim associate provost of academic affairs and a survey on the candidates held a response stating he helped “guide Kent State through the pandemic.”

In May 2020, he was named chair of the university’s Reopening Steering Committee, as well as leading the university’s Pandemic Leadership Committee.

In his academic credentials, van Dulmen is one of the nation’s leaders in his field of adolescent and young adult romantic relationships, holding a Ph.D. in family social science from the University of Minnesota.

In this position, van Dulmen will perform the following duties:

  • Provide leadership in the areas of Curriculum Services, ROTC and other areas as delegated by the provost

  • Provide leadership in performing needs assessment, developing strategic objectives and university-wide policies and procedures

  • Maximize existing resources and make strategic planning recommendations

  • Represent the provost at internal and external meetings and events

  • Assist the provost in development and accomplishment of academic affairs goals and objectives

  • Provide leadership and serve as a key point of contact on various large-scale academic initiatives

  • Review and render final decisions on student academic appeals

  • Assist the provost by chairing, convening and/or serving on various campus and community committees, task forces, councils, etc.

  • Perform related duties as assigned

In her email to the university, Tankersley said “Dr. van Dulmen is an experienced and proven leader and a skillful administrator who has a reputation for meaningful collaboration across the university system.”
