In collaboration with the American Heart Association, Modista and the Delta Sigma Theta sorority are hosting a styling competition where the main focus is the stylists’ use of red.

Each student participating in “Code Red” must provide three looks. They will be judged on their collection’s cohesiveness, their model’s walk and the way they use the color red.

Judges for the event will include an Adidas representative, a Modista alum, a Target representative and the president of Delta Sigma Theta.

Taylor Nowakowski, Modista’s director of communications, said they developed “Code Red” based on a styling competition they held in the fall and the success they saw with it.

“We did a styling competition back in the fall semester, it was the ‘Urban Street Style Competition,’ she said. “Our members responded really well to that so we wanted to give them another chance to style.”

Modista’s Director of Programming Ruth Baldwin said she is looking forward to seeing how the contestants combine their personal style and also the competition’s theme of red.

“I personally love seeing our stylists’ creativity in how they create collections that fit into our theme while exhibiting who they are and showing off their personal style,” she said. “It inspires me to be able to work with the talented individuals we have within our university and see what they have to offer.”

The competition takes place at 7 p.m. Feb. 10 in the Rockwell Auditorium. Tickets are $7 for Modista or Delta Sigma members, $10 for general admission and $15 for priority seating. There will be a mixer prior to the event at 6 p.m. in the Rockwell atrium.
