Students, faculty and staff experienced the Taste of Kent event Wednesday in Risman Plaza. Dining locations throughout campus came together to provide an opportunity for students to try a variety of snacks and other food options available on campus. Students gathered around the center of campus, listening to music and trying all the food.

Resident District Manager for Aramark Jeffrey Stone said the event has been going on for about 15 years. Stone said the Taste of Kent brings enthusiasm to the student body by showcasing the variety of dining halls across campus.
“The main philosophy is really community. It’s a way to bring people from the different dining locations together because they are spread out across campus and don’t get to see each other all the time,” Stone said.
Stone said although not all the food samples are healthy, they try to gear it towards the healthy side by showcasing all the options students have.

“Students always find burgers, fries and pizza because we have those and students like that,” Stone said. “But we want to make sure they understand the different healthy options we have on campus too.”

Students crowded in Risman Plaza said they were happy they attended the event.

“I like how social and over-the-top it is,” said student Michael Horn, a freshman pre-fashion design merchandising major. “I didn’t know about two of the dining services here, so it was really helpful to just experience all of it, and now I know where other places are to go.”
Erik Hopkins, a senior biology major, said he has been to the Taste of Kent every single year he’s attended Kent State. Hopkins said his favorite food at the event was the ice cream and black bean burger.
“There was lots of engagement and the students really love it,” Stone said. “So it is something we are going to continue.”
