Steinburg to leave Kent State basketball for Youngstown State

Assistant coach Bobby Steinburg has left the Kent State men’s basketball team to take the associate head coach position at Youngstown State, according to reports by the Record Courier.

Steinburg, who has spent the past nine seasons as an assistant coach at Kent State, was known for his recruiting on the junior college circuit; He’s credited with bringing Chris Evans and Jimmy Hall, among others, to Kent State. 

Steinburg served as an assistant under Geno Ford with current Kent State head coach Rob Senderoff, and then kept his position when Senderoff became coach. 

Steinburg will be working under Jerrod Calhoun in his rookie season at the helm of the Penguins, as longtime head coach Jerry Slocum retired following this past season.

Steinburg is the third coach at the Penguins have hired this week, joining Jason Slay and Paul Molinari, who were each hired as assistant coaches.
