The men’s golf team placed seventh out of 13 at The Aggie Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M.

The team ended 13 strokes above par, 24 behind first-place Louisiana State.

“This was the strongest field of the year,” said coach Herb Page. “There were nine teams (from the) top 30 in the country (competing).”

The Flashes are ranked No. 7 in the NCAA and competed against three other top 10 teams — No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 4 Baylor and No. 8 LSU.

Junior Chase Johnson led the Flashes with two strokes over par.

“We just didn’t play our best,” Page said. “When you look at the field, there’s no complaining about the outcome against these teams. When you don’t have your A-game in this kind of field, you don’t get the best results.”

The final round was cancelled due to inclement weather.

“We wanted to play and see if we could move up,” Page said, “but we obviously couldn’t play through thunderstorms.”

The men’s golf team will next compete at Purdue University at the Boilermaker Invitational on April 15-16.
