“A Magazine” and the non-profit organization UNCHAINED will collaborate to host an anti-human trafficking fashion show on Monday, April 4. The event will take place at 8 p.m. in the Kent State Student Center Ballroom.

UNCHAINED is an organization that brings garments designed by Korto Momolu, a Project Runway contestant, and uses them to narrate a story about human trafficking through the eyes of a victim.

Felicia Kalan, co-founder of UNCHAINED, said the organization aims to raise awareness of human trafficking to communities and educate them on how to report the crime.

“UNCHAINED seeks to raise awareness, educate individuals on how they can become abolitionists and restore victims and survivors of human trafficking,” Kalan said.

To spread awareness, Kalan said the show focuses on telling a survival story through the pieces of clothing. 

“We do this by raising awareness to communities, teaching them the signs of human trafficking,” Kalan said. “What to look for in their community and how to report the crime primarily through the UNCHAINED Fashion Show, which tells the story of a survivor of human trafficking through garments and narration.”

Kalan hopes the efforts put into this show will help at least one person.

“We believe by focusing on the areas of awareness, education and restoration, we are helping end modern day slavery,” Kalan said. “We believe if even one life is saved as a result, our efforts are well worth it.”

The show is funded by the Undergraduate Student Government, and admission is free for students and community members.

Students can stop by the Student Center from 1-4 p.m. on Thursday, March 31 to get a free ticket to the show.
