Kent State’s Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. will be hosting the “Our Time is Now” Benefit Concert on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Kiva to raise awareness about the #blacklivesmatter movement.

The event is part of the nationwide #BlackLivesMatter campaign and will be used to educate Kent State students about its purpose as well as how they can join the cause.

“The ultimate purpose of the event is to…get our black community out and educated and have students leave with a purpose,” said Marshae Jones, a senior fashion merchandising major and member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.

The benefit concert’s keynote speaker will be Pastor Bryndon Glass from S.P.A.N. Ministries in Tallmadge, Ohio.

“We are bringing him in to relay the message in a sense that others will understand,” Jones said.

The concert will feature Kent State students showcasing their talents. All performances will fall in line with the #BlackLivesMatter campaign.

“We want to showcase the talent that is around our community. The concert will showcase deep performances and will leave you thinking,” said Jones.

Tickets for the concert are $3 with a canned good and $5 without a canned good. All proceeds will benefit the All International Women of Color Foundation.
