Kent State Ashtabula Campus honors the men and women who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001 this week.

The Field of Honor is a memorial dedicated to remembering the victims of the 9/11 attacks. Kerri Lochmueller, student faculty advisor, said the Student Veterans Association at Kent State Ashtabula began decorating their campus with flags in 2011, beginning their memorial with just 144 flags.

“The goal was to have one flag for each victim,” Student Veterans Association President Jacobb Semple said. “This is the first year we have reached that goal.”

Semple said that there are 2,977 flags along the sidewalks of the Kent State Ashtabula Campus.

The flags were donated by Ashtabula’s local Veterans of Foreign Wars organization. The flags will be saved and stored for next year’s Field of Honor.

The memorial will remain on campus until Sunday, Sept. 13.
