Kent State gymnastics falls to Eastern Michigan

“Third time’s the charm” was not the case for Kent State gymnastics on Saturday. The team couldn’t increase its winning streak to three after Eastern Michigan defeated the Flashes, 194.700-193.800, in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

Freshman Rachel Stypinski, the Mid-American Conference Specialist of the Week for the second week in a row, won the balance beam event with a score of 9.8.

Senior Chelsea Drooger scored 9.8 on both the uneven parallel bars and the vault, notching a victory in the bars and tying for a runner-up finish in the vault event.

Eastern Michigan’s Anna Willette came in first in the individual overall with a 38.975 score. She scored a 9.825 on the vault, a 9.625 on the bars, a 9.725 on the balance beam and a 9.8 on the floor exercise.

Kent State scored team totals of 48.725 on the vault, 48.800 on the uneven bars, 47.975 on the balance beam and 48.300 on the floor.

Kent State gymnastics returns home Sunday, Feb. 15 as the Flashes host Central Michigan at 2 p.m. in the M.A.C. Center.
