BSR Beats: Tunes of 2014

January is always the best month to sit back and see what the past year decided to reward us. 2014 turned out to be a wonderful year for music.  With the playlist I have come up with, I can’t wait to see which fantastic tunes 2015 will bring us. Here’s a little taste of the releases I enjoyed the most in 2014.

“Elastic Heart” – Sia

I don’t know exactly what it is about this song, or this album in general, but it’s funky and upbeat which makes for a really good listen. I highly recommend anything by Sia. Her distinct voice and strange personality are extremely respectable. Especially if you’re a fan of Shia LaBeouf like I am, you’ll definitely have an appreciation for the music video for this song.

“Gravedigger” – Architects

I’ve never been a huge fan of Architects until they released this album in March 2014. “Gravedigger” is personally one of my favorites, and it does a spectacular job as the intro track for this record because it’s quite an intriguing way to lead you into the rest of the album.

“Cruel World” – Lana Del Rey

I have always been a huge Lana fan, stemming from her album Born to Die for the most part. Ultraviolence is a totally different approach to music by Lana in my eyes. She stuck to her normal, relaxed tone but in a way with more attitude. “Cruel World” is a great song that shows Lana has come out of her shell and is experimenting with a different path on her fearless route to success.

“Clockwork” – Chelsea Grin

When Ashes to Ashes released July 2014, I was a bit hesitant only because I fell into the idea of this band not getting any better than they already were, but they definitely proved me wrong. This song especially depicts exactly what I love about this band, experimental riffs and nasty growls. The whole album blew me away and definitely stood out to me in 2014.

“Blank Space” – Taylor Swift

Unfortunately, my mindset and specified love for music always made me think it would be the day that hell froze over for me to enjoy a Taylor Swift album. Consider that day today because this album is phenomenal. I can’t pick out one song on it that I don’t like, and “Blank Space” is a current favorite of mine. Give me someone that can sincerely tell you they don’t enjoy this album, and that will blow me away.
