Kent State proves to be conference’s top team

On Tuesday night, in a matchup of the top two teams in the Mid-American Conference, it was a battle down to the final few possessions of the game where Kent State (15-5, 6-1 MAC) finally pulled away to beat Central Michigan (14-4, 4-3 MAC), 63-53.

Kent State’s defensive effort was key in the game, extending the team’s winning streak to six straight wins. The Flashes held the Chippewas to 33.9 percent shooting from the field and 17.4 percent shooting from beyond the arc.

The Flashes were led by senior guard Devareaux Manley, who scored 16 points, and redshirt sophomore forward Jimmy Hall, who registered 15 points and 15 rebounds.

Junior guard Chris Fowler led the Chippewas with 15 points.

The Flashes will travel to New York on Friday to take on Buffalo. Tip-off is at 10 p.m.
