Kent State wrestling wins home opener against OU

The Kent State men’s wrestling team captured an impressive victory over their in-state foe, Ohio University, 24-12, in the season’s home opener.

Kent State (6-7, 2-1 MAC) received major contributions from two of its leaders on the team, juniors Ian Miller and Mack McGuire, who both recorded pins in their matches. McGuire pinned his opponent during the first period with 1:18 on the clock, and Miller recorded his pin with 1:31 remaining in the first period, according to the Ohio University athletics website.

Juniors Del Vinas and Tyler Buckwalter, redshirt freshman Jerald Spohn and sophomore Mimmo Lytle all won their matches respectively. The Flashes will look to continue their winning ways when they travel to face Edinboro this Sunday at 1 p.m.
