The School of Aeronautics at Kent State University will be holding its second mock interview and networking event in the Kent Student Center on November 20^th.

The event will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and is designed to help aeronautic students develop interviewing skills that could help them in the future when applying for jobs and internships.

Maureen McFarland, who is the academic program director of aeronautics, said the growth of the aeronautics program led to the idea for the event.

“As our program grows, we are formulizing many more internships and more partnerships with industries,” McFarland said. “We wanted to give our students more of an opportunity to meet those people from industries and practice their interviewing skills.”

People from various air-traffic control locations, airline pilots from Southwest and United Airlines, and airport managers are just some of the employers that will be interviewing students.

McFarland said the event is open to anyone in aeronautics no matter the grade and stated that though it is not mandatory, students are encouraged to attend.

“We wanted to give students the opportunity to be interviewed in a non-confrontational and relaxed atmosphere,” McFarland said. “It is not a requirement, but experience is experience and we strongly encourage it.”

McFarland also said one of the most important things about the interviewing event was that employers give students immediate feedback.

“A lot of times you will interview for a job or submit an application and you will never hear anything back,” McFarland stated. “So this is immediate feedback and the interviewers will tell the students what went right and wrong and what they can do to improve their skills.”

Food and drinks will be provided in the student center after the interviewing process for students and employers to socialize and discuss possible job and internship opportunities.
