The Kent State gymnastics team (3-0, 2-0 Mid-American Conference) won its third straight meet to start the season in a 194.875-194.050 win over Eastern Michigan University on Senior Day.

“We are happy with the win, but not satisfied with the total team performance,” coach Brice Biggin said. “We need to be better.”

194.875 is the most the Flashes have scored all season –– and they have scored above 194.500 in all three meets.

Senior Abby Fletcher tied her career-high on vault with a 9.850 and won her third individual event title in three weeks in that event. She also went on to set a career-high on beam with a 9.900 to win her second event title of the day.

Freshman Kyndall Gilbert placed second on vault with a 9.825, her third straight top-two finish to begin her college career.

Fletcher won her third title of the day on floor with a 9.875.

Seniors Jade Brown and Toshi Richard also tied for first place on floor with a 9.875. Richard had not competed since the 2019 season and this was her first career event title in her first event back.

Sophomore Rachel DeCavitch won an individual title on bars, scoring a 9.875. Maddie Iannuzzo tied for second place with a 9.825.

“Abby Fletcher had a phenomenal day, she had her best floor and beam routines of the year,” Biggin said. “Toshi Richard, someone who hasn’t competed a lot, was our last floor person and she had to come out and make her routine and she did a wonderful job.”

The Flashes will travel to Ypsilanti to take on Eastern Michigan again on Feb. 6 and Feb. 14.
