Despite the outrage that stores are stocking Christmas accessories before Thanksgiving, my pick this week is called “The Holiday.” It’s a Christmas movie. And it’s a chick flick. Whatever, I loved the movie when it came out in 2006.

Two unhappy women decide to swap homes for the Christmas holiday season. Traveling from Los Angeles, California, to Surrey, England, and vice versa, the two end up falling in love with guys who play a big part in the other woman’s life. In unexpected places and with unexpected people, they truly can find someone that makes them want to be a better person, laugh a little more or try something new. With an A-list cast including Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jack Black and Jude Law, the chemistry between them is tangible with a mix of subtle humor, emotional whirlwinds and adventure.

This flick will give you ideas for music to listen to, things to do during those awkward holiday moments and maybe even help you through some of those winter blues. Whether you relate to Law’s widower father-figure, Diaz’s workaholic company woman, Winslet’s lonely opinion columnist or Black’s awkward Hollywood screenwriter, this flick is perfect for a night during holiday break.
