Bent Tree Coffee Roasters was named “Best Coffee in Kent” for a second year in a row at “Nuts About Coffee.”

On the morning of Thursday, Oct. 16, Kent State’s Williamson Alumni Center offered the community free samples at the blind coffee tasting contest.

Bent Tree’s coffee surpassed local coffee shops including Dunkin’ Donuts, Sheetz and Scribbles Coffee.

The coffee was ranked based on aroma, taste and freshness.

“This is a fun way to kick off homecoming, and it will promote the community and the university together,” Joy Wesoloski, the Alumni Association assistant director, said prior to the event.

Bent Tree Coffee Roasters is located on 313 N. Water St. The two-time winner distributes coffee to local restaurants such as Wild Goats Cafe, Tree City Coffee and Taco Tantos.

“We work directly with the distributors to produce the best quality coffee we can,” said Chris Uhler, a manager at Bent Tree Coffee Roasters.

Uhler said he believes winning the competition in 2013 increased business for the roasting company and said he looks forward to what the 2014 title will bring.
