The Kent State field hockey team hopes to keep the momentum rolling this weekend in the Mid-American Conference after two convincing road victories last weekend.

The Flashes (4-7) opened up conference play with a 2-0 win over Missouri State University and followed up their performance with another dominating victory over Saint Louis University, 8-0.

The team has been prepared for conference play after playing a highly competitive non-conference schedule.

“We have been prepared for this weekend all year by playing a very challenging non-conference schedule and we are excited to get a shot at other teams playing well,” said Kent State head coach Kathleen Wiler.

The field hockey team, and co-offensive player of the week, Hannah Faulkner, will host MAC foe Ohio University on Saturday at Murphy-Mellis Field at 11:30 a.m.

Faulkner earned the honors after netting her first collegiate career hat trick against Saint Louis University.

“We were moving the ball very well as a team, and when I got the ball, I just attacked the cage and put some goals away,” Faulkner said.

Faulkner and fellow senior Julia Hofmann hope to keep the fire going as the team rapidly approaches the heart of conference play.

“As a senior, my goal is to continue focusing the team and be positive all 70 minutes of the game,” Hofmann said.

Both Hofmann and Faulkner are keys to the Flashes’ success as they move forward with the season. They will lead the offensive attack this weekend as Kent State hopes to come away with an Ohio sweep. The Flashes will close the weekend against Ohio State University on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Columbus.

The Buckeyes are 4-7 on the year and are coming off a narrow 4-3 overtime win over Virginia last Sunday in Charlottesville.
