Beginning Wednesday, Kent residents will have one more option for discount groceries. Marc’s, which will be replacing the former Top’s Market off of Route 261 at 1600 S. Water St., will open at 7 a.m.

“Our goal is to continue to offer the highest value and lowest prices for our customers,” Marc’s President Kevin Yaugher said in a press release from the company. “We are confident that the residents of Kent will be well served with this new location, and we look forward to being a part of this community.”

Day Armelli, Marc’s marketing director, said Kent has been on the company’s radar for a while because of the city’s growing infrastructure.

“The fact that (Top’s Market) was a grocery store was more of an advantage to us,” Armelli said.

Armelli said they made some changes to make the location fit Marc’s core layout.

According to the press release, the new Marc’s will feature fresh produce with a large selection of organics, and a cold cut counter that will offer sliced lunch meats and cheeses.

“Our construction team has been there making changes that fit what our core layout is — putting in our produce bunkers and setting up the cold cut counter,” Armelli said.

The grocery store will be open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
