Freshman exploratory major Breana Francis was charged with tampering with evidence and obstruction of justice in connection with the gunshot incident last Wednesday that sent campus into a three-hour lockdown.

Portage County Prosecutor Victor Vigluicci said Francis took possession of Tyler’s firearm in Johnson Hall that Wednesday night. Kent State Police’s Daily Report Log said Francis was charged at midnight Thursday.

Vigluicci said Francis, 18, of Columbus, will have a preliminary hearing with Tyler on Friday, April 11, at 9:15 a.m., before Judge Barbara Oswick in the Portage County Municipal Court’s Kent branch.

Francis is free on a personal recognizance bond. She might face additional charges once the case is heard by a Portage County grand jury.
