Kent police investigating armed robbery on East Summit Street

The Kent Police Department is investigating an armed robbery on East Summit Street in Kent, in close proximity to the Kent campus.

Johnny Abdul-Karim, a senior justice studies major, was robbed at gunpoint on his way back from downtown back to his apartment on East Summit Street. Adbul-Karim, 23, told TV2 reporters that three black male suspects threatened him and took his iPhone and all of the money in his wallet.

The university reported in a Flashline message that the robbery occurred around 1 a.m. The suspects are reported as three black males, one of whom had a gun. This suspect was described as 5’10” wearing a white or silver jacket. No further description of the suspects was provided.

The university is encouraging everyone in the university community to take certain precautions for thier safety:

* Find safety in numbers, practice walking with a companion or in groups at night;

* Keep the doors of residences, offices and automobiles locked;

* Mark your valuables with a personal identification number in case of loss or theft;

 * Have your keys ready when walking across parking lots and watch for any suspicious person or activities;

* Never leave your keys unattended in the car ignition; and 

* Lock all valuables such as mobile devices, laptops, cameras, book bags, briefcases and textbooks in the trunk.
