A Ravenna teenager died Sunday night after a train collided with her car at South Prospect Street and Summit Road.

The 15-year-old female had just received her learner’s permit and was transporting her father and four siblings, said Portage County Sherriff David Doak.

“Her father was conscious, and he said he told his daughter there was a train coming,” Doak said. “She was already on the tracks when he told her, and she began to panic. Then the train hit.”

The condition of the five family members was unknown as of press time, but Doak said the father was taken to Robinson Memorial Hospital and the four sisters were taken to Akron Children’s Hospital.

The railroad crossing is on a private drive that is near the family’s home, Doak said. The crossing does not have gates or signals, and the road has been closed for construction except for local traffic.
