The Kent State field hockey team (7-8, 3-0 Mid-American Conference) has gotten back on track after a five-match losing streak, winning its last two matches and three of its last four. The Flashes will now prepare to host the Miami (Oh.) Redhawks (8-7, 2-1 MAC) at noon Sunday at Murphy-Mellis Field.

Last game: The Flashes defeated the Ball State Cardinals by a score of 5-2 last Saturday in Muncie, Ind.

Last home game: The Flashes earned a victory against the Central Michigan Chippewas 3-2 in overtime on October 12. Junior Hannah Faulkner hit the game-winning goal in the opening minute of the overtime period.

Sunday’s opponent: The Redhawks are coming off a 1-0 loss to the Ohio Bobcats last Wednesday, which drops the team to second place one game behind the Flashes in the MAC standings.

Last season: The Flashes finished the 2012 season with a 9-13 record, but had a 4-1 record in the MAC, losing only to the Redhawks. Miami went on to defeat the Flashes again in the MAC Championship game, finishing the season 12-10 overall and 4-1 in the MAC.

Key players: Junior Julia Hofmann is the offensive leader for the Flashes, leading the team in goals with nine and overall points with 24. Hofmann is also tied for the team lead in assist with junior Abbie Carrico, each player recording six assists so far this season.

Faulkner and senior Melanie Kahn have each scored seven goals for the Flashes this season, and senior Rebecca Lee has added six goals. Faulkner and Lee are also second and third on the team respectively in total points scored.
