The investigation of a Sept. 2 fire at the Checkers-n-Trophies music bar has been closed after the cause of the fire has been ruled officially undetermined.

Michael Duchesne, spokesman for the Ohio Fire Marshal, said the investigation was closed because the state fire marshal could not officially determine the cause of the fire.

“(The investigation) is closed pending any further information,” Duchesne said.

Two separate fires broke out at the building, located at 352 W. Elm St, on Labor Day. The first fire is believed to have started in the basement.

The cause of the second fire, which destroyed the building, remains unknown.

Demolition of the building started Monday.

“Once we finish our scene investigation, that’s up to the insurance company and the property owner,” Duchesne said.
