The Office of Sexual and Relationship Violence Support Services is hosting a workshop Sept. 25 to teach male students how to respond to sexual assault situations at Bringing in the Bystander: Establishing a Community of Responsibility.

The audience will interact by working in small groups and alone to discuss how to handle certain situations, said Jennie O’Connell, sexual assault response coordinator for the Women’s Center.

“We know everyone isn’t going to be in a bar scene or a house party,” O’Connell said. “We want them to think about something they might actually encounter.”

O’Connell said the main focus of the event is finding ways to avoid sexual violence in certain situations.

The workshop will be held in Room 313 in the Student Center from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.on Wednesday and counts as an FYE course credit.

The workshop counts as an FYE course credit. Register by emailing Jennie O’Connell at [email protected].

Openings are on a first-come first-serve basis and are limited to men. O’Connell said registration is encouraged and can be completed by emailing her at [email protected].
