Vintage aircraft are making their way to the Kent State Airport for the 17th annual Aviation Heritage Fair on Saturday, Sept. 14.

Aeronautics program director Maureen McFarland said the purpose of the event is to share aviation history with community members.

Though parking and admission are free, the cost of additional activities, such as airplane rides offered from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., will go toward the first endowed Aviation Heritage Fair scholarship, according to a Kent State press release.

McFarland said recipients for the new scholarship and the three other scholarships offered at the event are selected by full-time faculty and staff in the aeronautics department.

The event will begin with the traditional Stow-Munroe Kiwanis pancake breakfast. Tickets for the breakfast, according to the event website, will cost $6 per person.

Additionally, World War II veterans Robert Withee, a pilot from Jackson Township and Ralph Lynn, a B-24 pilot from Perry Township will serve as the keynote speakers for the event, McFarland said.
