OU campus closed in response to armed robbery

Ohio University President Roderick McDavis closed the Athens campus around noon Wednesday as a precautionary measure in response to an armed robbery around 9:30 a.m. All classes are cancelled and students and non-essential employees were asked to return home, according to Ohio University’s emergency page.

The armed robbery was at Station Street Apartments near campus, according to Athens police. The suspect was allegedly armed with a handgun and fled on foot in the direction of Stocker Center on campus. An emergency text and email alert was sent at 9:59 a.m. As of 1 p.m., the suspect had not been caught.
