Kent residents fight for Sherman House preservation

Kent residents vied for the preservation of the historic Sherman house at Wednesday’s city council meeting.

The house, which predates the Civil War and is said to have housed the Kent family, is at risk of demolition to make way for the esplanade expansion from Kent State to downtown.

Rick Hawksley, former councilman, asked that council give 10 minutes at April 4’s meeting to present a proposal to secure the land and find a place to preserve the house.

Timothy Simandl, Kent resident, said the house is a rarity in Kent and warrants preservation, including its Greek revival architecture.
