Last season, the Kent State football team opened its season against the Alabama Crimson Tide, who later became the 2011 BCS Champions.

This year, the Flashes open their season at home against Towson, who finished 9-3 in Division-II football and won its conference, the Colonial Athletics Association, 7-1.

Darrell Hazell, Kent State head coach, finished his first season with the Flashes 5-7 overall and 4-4 in the Mid-American Conference.

With an experienced group of seniors and talented recruits, the Flashes’ 2012 look to “Rise As One” and contend for

the MAC Championship, an award they last won in 1972.

“I like our schedule because it gives us space between games for a few extra days to prepare for Kentucky, Buffalo and Ball State,” Hazell told kentstatesports.com. “Having that extra preparation time really helps, especially early in the season.”
