Linda Ohrn, associate professor of the fashion design and merchandising school, will have her clothing collection, “Life, Thoughts & Garments: Linda Ohrn-McDaniel Recent Works,” in the Kent State museum.

The collection will begin March 2 and be up for a year. The museum asked Ohrn to use her collection and she accepted the offer.

Ohrn has had pieces in the museum in the past, but this is the first time the museum showed the entire collection, said Jean Druesedow, director of the Kent State Museum. Ohrn’s collection was chosen because of the designs and so students can see faculty designs.

“Linda Ohrn’s work is especially interesting because of the conceptual nature of her designs,” Druesedow said in an email interview.

Once she was asked to use her collection, Ohrn wanted to make more pieces for her collection before the exhibit. She had one started that she finished and made another that was not already a part of the collection.

“I try to create pieces that challenge me in some way,” Ohrn said, “either through the pattern or the surface design.”

Ohrn said she keeps using hearts and circles in her work and in her designs. She began using circles as an undergraduate and has continued since.

Ohrn said she helped to design the walls and décor of the museum to correlate with her collection.

In the past, Ohrn has used pieces of her collection in class, but this is the first time it has been in the museum.

Ohrn began embroidery when she was as young as age five and sewing at age seven. However, Ohrn did not begin actually designing until after high school when she learned pattern making. She received her MFA in fashion at the University of North Texas.
