The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a hazardous waste spill that occurred on Interstate 76 westbound shortly after 11 p.m. Monday night. HAZMAT crews were on the scene to contain the spill, and the interstate was reopened around 8 a.m. Tuesday.

The spill was caused by a one-vehicle crash involving a semi-tractor trailer after it drove off the highway and overturned.

Thirty-six thousand gallons of diisobutylene, a highly flammable liquid, were being transported. Police reported only a small amount of the liquid was released, but the road was closed near Brimfield Township and rerouted from state Route 44 to state Route 43.

No injuries were reported, and the driver of the truck was cited for driving with impaired alertness.
