Kent resident arrested, charged with assault and abduction

A University Drive resident was arrested on Jan. 7 and charged with felonious assault and abduction.

Jermane Grays, 28, of 134 University Drive in Kent was arrested without incident on charges of assault and abduction, said Kent Police Lt. Paul Canfield. According to a Kent Police Department case report, Grays was also wanted for another outstanding warrant issued by the Portage County Sheriff’s Department.

The victim, 35-year-old Cherysse Cleveland of Brimfield Township, suffered minor injuries, including a severe laceration during the Jan. 5 violent incident.

Grays is scheduled to appear in court for a pre-sentencing hearing on Jan. 23.
