City Coucil Meeting Brief

Kent City Council passed a motion to vote on city ward reapportionments at Wednesday night’s committees meeting. The change will affect students living on and off campus, as well as Kent residents.

Should this pass at the general city council meeting later this month some students may find themselves in a new ward of the city, thus they will have new council member to represent them. This change would also affect some voting districts.

Resident Cassandra Pegg-Kirby of High Street requested the closure of the sidewalks on her street. Some residents living on the street feel that once the new Lincoln Commons project is completed students will use it as a cut through to the housing complex late at night causing disturbances in the neighborhood.

Council members decided to hold off on making a decision on the request until after the development is completed, so they can properly assess the situation should problems arise. They also took into consideration the fact that the city is working toward making Kent more pedestrian accessible.

The city council will officially vote on these and other matters at its general meeting on September 21 at 7:30 p.m.
