County-owned Robinson Memorial discusses turning private, non-profit

The Portage County Board of Commissioners is holding a public meeting Thursday to discuss the proposal by Robinson Memorial’s Hospital to change from a county-owned hospital to a private, non-profit hospital.

The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. in the Maplewood Career Center at 7075 St. Rt. 88 in Ravenna .

Charlene Badger, the executive assistant for Portage County’s three commissioners, said the meeting is an opportunity for the public to share their opinions.

“If people go, they’ll learn more about the process for how the hospital could go from a county hospital to a not-for-profit and why the board of trustees feels this is the right move for them,” Badger said.

Stephen Colecchi, President and Chief Executive Officer of Robinson Memorial, will speak at the meeting, as well as each of the county commissioners.

Badger said the Board of Commissioners have not yet given a date for when they will vote on the proposal.
