DuBois moves merchandise, prepares lot for new owner

Movers went to work at DuBois Bookstore Wednesday morning to clear out the rest of the merchandise in the closed store.

The clearing out process has been going on for months since the bookstore silently closed June 28. General Manager John DuBois said he had to focus his energy on the Cincinnati and Oxford bookstore locations.

He said he’s made three or four trips to bring merchandise that isn’t branded Kent State to the Cincinnati DuBois location.

“We sold the other merchandise (that said Kent State) to Campus Book and Supply,” DuBois said. “We gave them a lot price for everything. If you want Kent State merchandise, go see him.”

Students who have been parking for free in the DuBois parking lot have noticed new signs saying all vehicles parked there would be towed.

“The lot should’ve been closed the whole time,” DuBois said. “The property will be transferred to another owner in the next 30 days.”

DuBois would not say who the future property owner is, but he did say it was a development firm.

“I imagine it would be student housing or commercial property,” DuBois said. “Student housing is a hot market in this cold economy.”
