Being able to recognize a fire hazard in a dorm room can be quite confusing. Many students at Kent State may not even know some of the potential fire hazards that exist in their own residence hall rooms. Simple items such as lamps with flexible arms or posters hanging on a door are considered fire hazards. Coordinator of Residence Safety and Security Brian Hellwig said items such as extension cords and candles cause fires in residence halls across the nation. It’s suggested that students take time to look over the residence hall handbook to view a complete list of items that are considered fire hazards.
