The Kent Fire and EMS Department responded to a fire that broke out in an apartment this morning at University Inn on South Water Street.

According to Craig Peeps, a lieutenant with the Kent Fire Department, there were multiple 911 calls reporting a fire at 11:56 a.m. Residents of the apartment were able to evacuate, and a dog was found by first responders who administered oxygen to the animal until it recovered.

Kent firefighters were assisted by responders from Ravenna, Stow and Streetsboro, who were able to put out the fire. The cause of the fire is unknown, and the extent of the damage is being evaluated at this time.

At least one tenant was displaced from the apartment, but was able to relocate to a different location in the building. According to Peeps, at least one fire was reported at University Inn last year.
