For anyone looking to brush up on computer skills, or develop basic internet savvy, the closest and cheapest solution is just down Main St., at the Kent Free Library.

Those who take the classes, “learn basics of computer use and the internet, as well as gain the self confidence that comes with mastering a new skill,” said Carmen Zampini, Director of the library. AP STYLE SAYS LOWERCASE JOB TITLES.

Most of the attendees of the classes are individuals in their 60’s looking to understand how to search the internet and set up e-mail accounts, but Zampini says there‘s more to it than that.

“Many people have heard about the internet from the media or family and want to be able to share the experience of being connected or feel more current by being technologically up-to-date,” said Zampini. Being that the classes are free, and designed for the individual with, “little or no computer experience,” Zampini said the library is perfect place for them, and has been for some time.

Originally, the Kent Free Library taught computer classes in the early 1980’s with Project C.A.T. (Computer Access Today) when the library acquired several IBM PC’s with a grant from the State Library of Ohio. After moving into the new building in 2006, an expanded computer area and lab allow Kent residents access to “more computers and more appropriate space for computer classes,” said Zampini.

The library has 5 classes left that are open to anyone. All classes are from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
