        Kent State’s Africana studies department held a Kent State’s Africana studies department held a welcome ceremony Thursday morning for the delegation of students from the University of Fort Hare, a part of the Heritage Ubuntu Student Fellowship. Two years ago, the Heritage Ubuntu Student Fellowship was created to allow students from both Kent and the University of Fort Hare to study at each university and study various cultures, Felix Kumah-Abiwu, associate professor of Africana studies and director of the Center for African Studies, said. The welcome ceremony started with opening remarks from Kumah-Abiwu, who quoted Nelson Mandela while welcoming the masters and doctoral students. This year 2,089 international students from countries such as India, Brazil and Saudi Arabia have chosen to study at the university, said Jef Davis, associate director for International Student and Scholar Services. “We went through some declines… since the pandemic started as did most other institutions and then we started seeing a rebounding,” Davis said.         With tensions rising from the Palestine-Israel war With tensions rising from the Palestine-Israel war, Kent State President Todd Diacon took the time to explain the university’s core values of kindness, respect and free speech in this semester’s installment of his online session, “Talking with Todd.” This is not the first time Diacon has spoken about these core values as earlier in the semester he spoke to the freshmen about them during his convocation speech. “I urged these new students to embrace our identity, to embrace this commitment and to learn how to agree and to learn how to disagree, and to do so in a respectful and kind manner,” Diacon said. The armed wing of Hamas said earlier Wednesday, without providing evidence, that Kfir, his 4-year-old brother, Ariel, and their mother, Shiri, were killed in an Israeli airstrike. The armed wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, said they had been killed in earlier Israeli bombing. Thirty-four-year-old David Gamble is charged with breaking and entering the building at 400 E. 4th St. in East Liverpool, along with theft and criminal damage, according to East Liverpool Police Officer Jay Lane. Wilson, who has been charged with the aggravated murder of a 35-year-old woman at a duplex off South Water Street in Kent. A Kent Police Department report said the homicide occurred around 2 p.m. Nov. 21 at 1323 S. Water St. Kent Police Lieutenant Michael Lewis told the Record-Courier the victim was pregnant and more charges could be filed. A warrant is out for Wilson’s arrest.
