Transitioning your summer wardrobe to fall
August 31, 2010
With fall approaching quickly, buying an entire new wardrobe is unnecessary. With a few simple tips, favorite summer pieces can remain fabulous throughout the fall months.
The key is to make appropriate fabric choices — pair favorite minis with dark tights, boots and a lightweight sweater or cardigan.
Save the sheer fabrics and linens for next summer, but keep the dark denims, cotton twills and corduroy for fall.
Summer dresses can also be worn when paired with a jacket and ballet flats or tall boots as the temperature begins to drop.
Be cautious, however, of summery patterns and colors. Try to pair any brighter colors with darker accessories, but give neon colors and bright floral patterns a rest until next year.
Plaids, dark floral prints and animal prints are some patterns great for fall. Try to keep your colors to jewel and warm tones such as burgundy, teal, burnt oranges and browns.
Don’t forget to use accessories during this transition — they will come in handy.
Adding fall touches to a look, such as wool scarves and darker neutral colored handbags, will drastically change an outfit and complete the summer-to-fall look.
