Activities at College Fest ended without any major problems at around 10:50 p.m. tonight.

Throughout the day, between 40 and 50 officers from the Kent City Police and several other local departments were stationed on College Avenue in an attempt to prevent a repeat of College Fest 2009, when riots broke out in the evening.

The officers began clearing out parties at around 10:15 p.m. and herding them away from College Avenue toward campus.

The act triggered some bottles being thrown by partygoers gathered on lawns and porches on the street, as well as a chant of “F—k the police.” By 10:35 p.m., the street was mostly quiet.

At about 10:45 p.m., the police cleared out one final party near the dead end of College Avenue. The officers herded students toward Summit Street and campus.

Five minutes later, an officer announced over a megaphone to stragglers: “Party’s over. Leave the area immediately.”

A spokeswoman from the Kent Police said at 11 p.m. that 31 people had been booked so far, and more hadn’t had their paperwork filled out yet. Those arrested are being held overnight at the Kent Police Department.
