Lady Flashes fall to Toledo

After trailing Toledo by 15 points in the second half, the Kent State women’s basketball team came back and set the stage for what could have been a tying field goal with 6.6 seconds left.

Unfortunately, the Flashes were unable to control the ball and turned it over with less than three seconds left in the game, losing 51-49 in the Mid-American Conference semifinal.

The Flashes came out shooting 5-for-11 in the beginning of the game, including 3-of-4 from three-point range, but missed 16 of their next 17 shots allowing the Rockets to pull away.

Toledo led by 15 points with less than 10 minutes remaining, but the Flashes were able to bring the game within two in the final 30 seconds.

After the Rockets missed two foul shots with 6.6 seconds remaining, Kent State junior guard Jamilah Humes drove down the court, but lost control of the ball as she approached the basket, allowing Toledo to hold on for the win.

Humes led Kent State with 16 points and junior forward Taisja Jones added a double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds) for the Flashes.

Eliminated from the MAC Tournament, Kent State will have to wait to see if they are selected for any women’s post-season tournaments.
