Privacy Policy

This privacy policy was adapted in part from the Automattic privacy policy, and is licensed in part under a Creative Commons Sharealike license.

This privacy policy applies to the following Web sites and services: Kentwired.com, KentNewsNet.com, Kentcribs.com and the Office of Student Media at Kent State University.

Visitors

Like most Web site operators, the Office of Student Media at Kent State University, dba Kentwired.com, collects non-personally-identifying information of the sort that Web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of each visitor request. Kentwired.com’s purpose in collecting non-personally identifying information is to better understand how Kentwired.com’s visitors use its Web site.

Kentwired.com also collects potentially personally-identifying information like Internet Protocol (IP) addresses.  

Gathering of Personally-Identifying Information

Certain visitors to Kentwired.com’s Web sites choose to interact with Kentwired.com in ways that require Kentwired.com to gather personally-identifying information. The amount and type of information that Kentwired.com gathers depends on the nature of the interaction. In each case, Kentwired.com collects such information only insofar as is necessary or appropriate to fulfill the purpose of the visitor’s interaction with Kentwired.com. Kentwired.com does not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below. Kentwired.com may collect statistics about the behavior of visitors to its Web sites. For instance, Kentwired.com may monitor the most popular articles or comments on the Kentwired.com site. Kentwired.com may display this information publicly or provide it to others. However, Kentwired.com does not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below.

Protection of Certain Personally-Identifying Information

Kentwired.com discloses potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only to those of its employees, contractors and affiliated organizations that (i) need to know that information in order to process it on Kentwired.com’s behalf or to provide services available at Kentwired.com’s Web sites, and (ii) that have agreed not to disclose it to others. Children’s Guidelines

We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. Kent State Office of Student Media assumes that visitors to our Web sites are of legal age. All content on Kent State Office of Student Media sites may not be appropriate for children. Articles and article comments may occasionally contain explicit or suggestive content, profanity and other mature material. Parental guidance is encouraged.

Cookies

A cookie is a string of information that a Web site stores on a visitor’s computer, and that the visitor’s browser provides to the Web site each time the visitor returns. Kentwired.com uses cookies to help Kentwired.com identify and track visitors, and their Web site access preferences. Kentwired.com visitors who do not wish to have cookies placed on their computers should set their browsers to refuse cookies before using Kentwired.com’s Web sites, with the drawback that certain features of Kentwired.com’s Web sites may not function properly without the aid of cookies.
