Hump Day: Cheers and Jeers

DKS Editors

CHEERS TO

• Everyone who attended the fundraiser last week to raise money for the family of Christopher Kernich, who died Nov. 21 from injuries suffered during an off-campus assault. The event at the Brewhouse raised $8,000 to help pay medical expenses.

• Students helping others this holiday season – donating items to needy children, donating food or donating time with a volunteer organization.

• All the organizations hosting World AIDS Day events and spreading awareness about HIV/AIDS and safe sex.

JEERS TO

• People who call 911 for non-emergencies. They waste taxpayers’ money and occupy law enforcement, potentially keeping them from addressing real emergencies.

• President Barack Obama’s decision to send 30,000 extra troops to Afghanistan. We hope he follows through with plans for troop removals in 2011.

• The avalanche of papers, projects and tests befalling students this week. Procrastination always turns out to be a bad idea at this point in the semester.
