Suspects now face murder charges

A Portage County grand jury indicted Adrian A. Barker, 21, and Ronald G. Kelly, 20, today for murder in connection with Kent State student Christopher Kernich’s death.

Barker, of Akron, was indicted for two counts of murder, an unclassified felony, and remains charged with felonious assault and obstructing official business.

Kelly, also of Akron, was indicted for two counts of murder and also remains charged with felonious assault.

A third man, Glenn Jefferson, was also arrested in connection to the murder. He is currently charged with obstructing justice. Jefferson’s preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 4.

Kernich died Nov. 21 of injuries suffered Nov. 15 during the off-campus assault.
