The Kent State volleyball team dominated the Raider Challenge this weekend in Dayton.

The Flashes swept all three matches against St. Peter’s, Evansville and Wright State. Host Wright State was voted to finish the season in the top 25, but lost after five sets 3-2 to the Flashes.

Kent State, after taking the first set 25-18, lost the following two sets (20-25, 17-25). The Flashes played a close fourth set 26-24 before taking the fifth 15-5.

Kent State coach Glen Conley said good passing helped the team all weekend, especially in the match against the Raiders.

“We had incredible passing during the match (against Wright State),” Conley said. “It allowed us to run a strong offense.”

Earlier today the Flashes defeated Evansville 3-2. Sophomore middle blocker Liva Brivule and senior outside hitter Arjola Prenga each recorded 19 kills during the match.

Kent State began the weekend Friday with a match against St. Peter’s. The Flashes shut out the Peahens 3-0 for their second win of the season. Prenga scored 19 kills and 18 digs over the three sets.

After the Raider Challenge, Kent State is now 4-7 for the season.

“I feel very good about the wins,” junior middle blocker Ceila Sabo said. “We fought hard this weekend.”

The Flashes will return to action Friday at 11 a.m. to face Robert Morris for their first home game of the season.
