As the only Midwest team to be invited, the Kent State men’s golf team will travel this weekend to the Ping Golfweek Invitational.

The prestigious tournament will host many of the top-ranked men’s golf teams in the NCAA on Sunday and Monday. The tournament will be hosted in Bremerton, Wash. at the Gold Mountain Golf Club.

The Ping Golfweek Invitational, held on an Olympic course, will be a 54-hole tournament, three rounds for each team.

Kent State coach Herb Page has high expectations for this weekend, after the team’s fifth place finish at the Maryland Intercollegiate tournament two weeks ago.

“Our team could play very well this weekend and finish 10th, 11th or 12th,” Page said.

Since the Maryland Intercollegiate tournament, the team made a few slight changes to improve their game.

“We have changed the line up a little bit,” Page said. “We have also been working harder on our short games (at practice).”

Freshmen Isaac Charette, will make his debut this weekend and be added to the line-up. Page said he also expects junior John Hahn to play well this weekend.

“(John) is competing against the best, and he is one of the best,” Page said. “He has been very focused this week.”

Page said it will be a very challenging weekend for the team, but they have earned this position. The goal going into the competition is to “get re-ranked in the top 20 college teams” in the country, he said.

The men’s golf team will compete against ranked teams like No. 2 Oklahoma, No. 3 Washington, No. 4 Texas A&M and No. 5 Arizona.

“We’re going to go in and do our best,” Page said.
